Work in progress

Following the news of last fall, we are now planning the work for the next few months.

The first event is scheduled for the middle of February, with the release of CMDBuild version 2.4.3. Although this is a "minor release", it will include several new important and useful features, which are described more in details in the following news.

Meanwhile it continues in parallel the work for CMDBuild 2.5, which will be released before the summer and will include, among other things, the much-awaited feature of the application "clustering" at server side, as described more in details in the previous Newsletter.

We are then beginning the analysis of what will become CMDBuild 3.0, collecting the inheritance of the current application to bring it into the next decade. We are working on a list of requirements, to be then able to make a schedule, but in any case we have set ourselves the goal of having the version 3.0 available by the end of next year

CMDBuild 2.4.3

The new CMDBuild version 2.4.3 will be released in mid-February and will include the following main news:

  • introduction of a versioning mechanism also for the document content; this activity has been commissioned by Staffordshire & Shropshire Health Informatics Service of the British Health Service, as described in more detail in the next news;
  • GIS map printing, with all available controls (polygonal, symbols, scale, thematism legend, etc.);
  • possibility of a map address research with OpenStreetMap;
  • integration of new filtering possibilities in the Relation Graph;
  • improvements in the user interface (ability to specify the attributes to display in the widget createModifyCard, user list paging in the Administration Module);
  • improvements in system authentication and logout (ability to manage accounts in "case insensitive" mode, ability to specify a redirect URL at the logout);
  • bug fixing.

Attachment versioning

This new feature provides the possibility of versioning of documents, through the CMIS interface already supported by CMDBuild, when a file attached to a data card or to a process is uploaded or updated.

Will then be possible to:

  • Update a document already uploaded;
  • Specify whether the new version of the uploading document should be numbered as "minor version" (1.1, 1.2, etc.) or as a "major version" (1.0, 2.0, etc.);
  • Display in the Attachment TAB of CMDBuild a new icon which will open a pop-up window, where it will appear the list of the already uploaded versions of that document;
  • Check in the pop-up window, for each version of the document, the creation, last modification and end of dates, the author, the version, the name and the file description.

The implementation of this new feature has been commissioned by the Staffordshire & Shropshire Health Informatics Service, one of the main organization of the English Health Service (NHS UK), which has already been using since years CMDBuild extensively.

In particular, they support 5 different organizations with 40 IT users and manage a large number of items (for the most part automatically updated) including more than 80.000 people, 1.300 locations, 700 telephone lines, 500 network links, 1.700 servers, 8.200 telephones, 12.500 PCs, 8.900 laptops.
