CMDBuild is promoted by the Municipality of Udine and developed by Tecnoteca srl.

Work in progress: the new workflow

We are working regularly in order to release the 2.0 version of CMDBuild, particularly focused on the revision of the workflow system, by summer 2012.

The new workflow will include:

  • upgrade of Together Workflow Server (formerly called Enhydra Shark) from version 2.8 to the current version 4.4
  • upgrade of process definition language from XPDL 1 to XPDL 2;
  • parallelism features for CMDBuild activities and processes;
  • API to interact with CMDBuild in the script-type activities

The new workflow features will entail, for some aspects, the loss of the backward compatibility with the up-to-now developed workflows.

In order to facilitate the transition to the new 2.0 version, some external tools will be available to automate the migration of the old processes to the new format. For complex migrations special "How-To" documents will help users switch between the two versions.

Work in progress: dashboards

The CMDBuild dashboard, based on the corresponding features of Ext JS, will be a container for graphical elements (charts), able to show indicators (KPI) directly, summary and statistical data, processed by analyzing the information in the CMDB (data cards and processes).

The system will be set up in the Administration module by defining:

  • a set of various charts (pie chart, histogram, bar chart, line chart), each of which will require specific graphic parameters, data source (PostgreSQL function), mapping between the output parameters of the function and the input parameters of the chart, any other possible launch parameter
  • one or more pages (the dashboards themselves) to distribute the charts of interest by selecting them from the list of available ones, choosing the layout (one, two or three columns) and moving them to obtain the desired layout.

In the Management Module every user will be able to access the dashboards enabled for his group, finding them both under the new heading "Dashboard" in the accordion positioned on the left side of the graphical interface and in the current Navigation menu.

While opening the page, the system will display the charts configured and require the parameters (if any) needed to render the graph.

CMDBuild Day in Bologna on May 10th

The preparations for the CMDBuild Day, that is going to take place in Bologna on May 10th at the headquarters of the Region Emilia Romagna, are now getting to top gear.

A provisional version of the program has been published on the CMDBuild website: we will take care of upcoming daily updates.

The program includes different topics that we are strongly convinced will be of some help to everyone, and others which are still being discussed about.

We warmly invite those of you who will take part in the event to fill in the registration form available on the website, and to do it as soon as possible in order to help us organize the event.

The partecipation is free, but the registration is compulsory.

Despite the fact that the event will take place in a central area, useful information for those who will come from outside the city and names of hotels close to the above-mentioned location will be soon published on the website, together with the directions to get to the venue of the meeting.

CMDBuild Case study

GRUPPO ITALIANO VINI (GIV) is the greatest wine-growing company of Italy and one of the best 10 companies of the world for production and trading of high-quality wines.

The Company, founded in 1986, is based in the 18th-century Villa Belvedere in Calmasino, on the Garda lake, and is the holder of 15 historical cellars and more than 1300 hectars of vineyard all over the Italian territory.

The ICT Strategy for Infrastructure (network, Server Farm, pc, tablets and phones), Information Asset (Procedures and Documents of company projects), Application Portfolio (SAP Core, department softwares, Mobile platforms), Compliance and Risk Management are monitored, for the Italian bases and business branches abroad, by the IT Department.

In order to improve the management of these activities GIV has chosen CMDBuild and, with the support of Tecnoteca, has gained the necessary experience for the configuaration and the effective management of the application.

Specifically, the system has been installed in some months of work, the CMDB has been modeled and initialized, the Ticketing and Change Management workflows have been analyzed and enforced. The next step will be the activation of a connector with which the differences found by the Automatic Inventory system will be detected and managed in CMDBuild.

Support Services

The spread of the CMDBuild system (more than 500 dowloads every month from the project website and SourceForge together) generates FAQ about the support services available.

In order to answer these requests new pieces of information have been published in the "Support" section, with the description of the different currently available tickets:

  • "flat" maintenance service, which includes phone support for solving users' doubts concerning the use of the application, bug fix under warranty, version upgrades by project developers
  • "pay-per-use" support, including several and different support tickets usable in remote mode or with working days at customers' offices
  • single tickets for single problems

The maintenance service guarantees the continuative functioning of the system, the "pay-per-use" support for evolutionary activities (analysis, data model, workflow and report configuration, script for the CMDB starting initialization, education, ecc), the on-line tickets for the management of small and non-critical installations.

An online form is available for requiring extra documentation and prices of the disposable services.
