PAT is the new maintainer of the CMDBuild project
Tecnoteca has become PAT (Zucchetti Group).
This signifies continuity, stability and a greater capacity to invest in the evolution of the CMDBuild ecosystem.
The integration allows the experience, technologies and services developed by the two companies to be combined into a single legal entity, with the aim of:
Increasing the group’s capacity for investment and innovation
Offering customers increasingly integrated and high-performance solutions
Further strengthening our presence in the international market
The merger ensures full continuity of services: all ongoing projects, activities and relationships will continue with the same teams and technical contacts. This includes the transfer of the role of maintainer of the Open Source code on which the platforms used for project development are based.
The platform’s wealth of expertise, experience and knowledge remains, but can now rely on a broader structure and new industrial synergies.
CMDBuild continues on its journey with an even stronger foundation.
We would like to thank the entire community — customers, partners, users and subscribers — for the journey we have undertaken so far.
In the next news update, you can find out more about the new release of CMDBuild (version 4.2). Enjoy reading!
CMDBuild 4.2 Release is now available!
We are pleased to announce that version 4.2 of CMDBuild was released on 27 March 2026.
With the new 4.2 release, CMDBuild takes another step forward in its journey of growth.
This version introduces significant improvements that make the platform even more open, modern and ready to integrate into the most advanced organisational environments.
On the Webservices side, version 4.2 introduces the new REST v4 webservice, featuring a more efficient notification polling system and further enhancements to error handling. To better support developers, automatic documentation compliant with the OpenAPI standard is now available, simplifying integration with external systems.
The Maps area also benefits from several targeted improvements, addressing both functionality and user experience. Users can now customize polygon styles, retrieve coordinates using a new projection, and work within a cleaner, more streamlined interface.
Significant updates have also been introduced in the Plugin Manager, which now includes a new page dedicated to plugin management. The release adds support for custom components with localization, a more comprehensive administrative dashboard, expiration notifications, and various UI optimizations designed to make overall management more intuitive and effective.
Special attention has been paid to accessibility, with focused interface improvements aimed at providing a more inclusive experience aligned with best practices.
There are also numerous user interface enhancements: new rules for widget display have been introduced, the relationship graph has been improved, and the notification system has been enhanced. Bulk editing is now smoother, and dashboards allow data export.
Regarding User Notifications, release 4.2 introduces the ability to mute notification sounds and adjust notification volume, improving personalization of the user experience.
The release is rounded out by several additional improvements, including auto-trimming for string attributes, real-time validation of cron expressions, and new features for data anonymization.
CMDBuild 4.2 thus confirms the direction taken: to offer an open-source platform that is increasingly mature, robust and suited to managing assets, processes and data in a centralised manner.
The growth of the core is reflected across the entire ecosystem!
openMAINT and CMDBuild READY2USE, built on the CMDBuild core, benefit directly from platform updates, strengthening the technological foundations of both solutions and bringing improvements across various application contexts.
A real-world example: Uline
This evolution is not just theory.
The Uline case study, already available on the website, demonstrates in concrete terms how CMDBuild can support structured asset management scenarios, with an approach that combines control, scalability and integration capabilities.
It is a practical demonstration of how the platform can generate real value when integrated into a well-orchestrated ecosystem.
Thanks to this project, Uline now has a more comprehensive and structured view of its IT ecosystem, with tangible benefits in terms of risk management, asset lifecycle control and support for strategic decision-making.
Open source where it’s needed, premium where it makes a difference
CMDBuild began as an open-source solution over 20 years ago and, building on these foundations, has developed and continues to grow.
The core of the platform, with its fundamental features, is entirely open source. This means transparency, freedom of use, the ability to extend the solution, and full control over it, without any technological or licensing constraints.
Alongside this open core, CMDBuild integrates premium features designed to accelerate adoption and maximise value in real-world, complex contexts. These include a dedicated app (including offline mode), a self-service portal for non-technical users, and plugins that extend the platform with advanced functionality, including integration with external systems. These components simplify adoption, enhance the user experience and significantly reduce implementation times and costs.
These premium features are available to customers who choose to sign a Maintenance contract. This model enables the continuous development of the platform, guaranteeing updates, professional support and new features, without compromising on the values of open source.
In this way, CMDBuild combines the best of both worlds: open source, with robustness, flexibility and independence, and premium, for speed, integration and a ready-to-use experience. A balance designed to support the evolution of organisations yesterday, today and tomorrow.
New CMDBuild manuals now available online
The new, updated CMDBuild Manuals are now available, completely revamped to offer a more intuitive and user-friendly experience.
The CMDBuild “Manuals” are the platform’s official documentation: a comprehensive set of guides designed to support users, administrators and developers in using, configuring and integrating the system.
However, we have updated them, improving the structure and navigation to make the content clearer, more accessible and easier to consult online, helping you to quickly find the information you need.
A single, constantly updated reference point to understand, configure and make the most of all CMDBuild’s features, guiding every user in their daily use of the platform.
Explore the updated “Manuals” section and find the path best suited to your role.
Looking ahead: the roadmap for CMDBuild READY2USE and openMAINT
The CMDBuild READY2USE and openMAINT initiative is entering a new phase. We are actively working on the product roadmaps, which will finally begin to evolve in a structured and continuous manner.
By September, we will share a three-year roadmap, designed to provide a clear, long-term vision of the platforms’ evolution, with the first releases expected as early as the end of this year.
The roadmap will include several strands of work:
- new features derived from developments in CMDBuild core
- new functional modules, designed to respond precisely to customer needs
- refactoring of outdated components, to improve the quality, maintainability and overall robustness of the solutions.
Guiding this journey will be a clear vision:
“Conscious Asset Management in a Single Platform”.
A direction aimed at making the management of assets, services and operational information increasingly integrated, conscious and strategic, within a single platform.
The future of CMDBuild READY2USE and openMAINT starts here, with a clear and shared path of evolution.
New connector management in CMDBuild
Interoperability is a key feature of a modern CMDB: integrating multiple data sources in a simple and consistent manner is essential for gaining a reliable view of the IT infrastructure.
That is why we have introduced a new connector management system, designed to simplify installation, reduce configuration time and work with any application, regardless of its data model or customisations. The new architecture features connectors managed as plugins, a system data model for acquiring information from sources, and a template-based reconciliation mechanism against the customer’s data model.
The solution is rounded off by centralised parameter configuration and a monitoring dashboard for managing and controlling operations. A concrete step towards a more flexible, interoperable and easily governed CMDB.
